NEW MUSIC VIDEO/SHORT FILM OUT NOW

Film maker friends please don't judge me this is my first attempt at film making, I directed and shot this film all on an inexpensive camera, unfortunately a lot of the footage was stolen off a laptop but huge thanks must go to Brett Daniel Wegener for helping shape this concept and Julia Wilson for just being an amazing talent. The story is loosely based off an old fable, but we put a modern twist on it. Its about dealing with the tension and pressures of a modern industrial society and acknowledging nature and beauty in the wake of catastrophe. Please share and spread if you like what you see. Huge thanks also to Billy Pineapples for the editing.

Matt Vend’s 2016 Western/Eastern Cape Summer Tour – taking the long way home.

I’ve been on the road just over 3 weeks, I’ve immersed myself into the Cape Town live music scene and have also had the opportunity of charting new musical waters, which is always exciting but not always easy. So far I’ve played fancy restaurants to no one, dingy pubs to a bunch of drunks, train stations packed to the brim with Saturday beach goers jamming with an old whiskey soaked bluesman,  and street corners with street musicians. It’s been a hit the ground running start to 2016, hustling around Cape Town and the Western Cape and doing my first ever performances in places such as Pringle Bay, Hermanus and Tulbagh. Even had a turf war with a toothless saxophone street musician in Kalk Bay, initially the guy saw me as an interesting addition to his show but later ridiculed me for only knowing how to play folk, rock ‘n roll and the blues. As always I like doing things the long way around and will be taking 2 weeks to get home. Here’s where you can catch me as I take the long road back to Durban in Kwa-Zulu-Natal:

*Wednesday 27th of Jan – Straight No Chaser, Cape Town. With Jon Shaban, R50 entry.
*Friday 29th of Jan – Sundowners, Mossel Bay. Free entry, donations encouraged.
*Saturday 30th of Jan – Cocomo’s, Wilderness, Free entry, albums on sale.
*Sunday the 31st of Jan – Surf CafĂ©, Plet free entry. Donations encouraged.
*Tuesday the 2nd of Jan – Wild Spirit Backpackers, Nature’s Way. Free entry, donations encouraged.
*Wednesday the 3rd of Jan – Island Vibe, Backpackers, Jeffery’s Bay. Free entry, donations encouraged.
*Friday the 5th of Jan – Slipstream Sports Bar, Grahamstown. R20 entry, 7pm.
*Wednesday the 10th of Jan – Slipstream Sports Bar, Grahamstown. R20 entry, 7pm.
*Saturday the 13th of Jan – Slipstream Sports Bar, Grahamstown. R20 entry, 7pm.

Joining me on this leg of the tour will be Cami Scoundrel, writer, musician, punk  and all round legend human (she’s also not too shabby on the bass).

So hopefully see you out there on the road!

Much love!

Matt
